Although I’ve tried to keep all the train formations on New Hey as prototypical as possible and all based on photographs of formations actually running on the line, theres always scope for that unrecorded working. On 28 January 1967, Walsall played Bury at Gigg Lane in an FA cup 4th round tie. The team chartered a Blue Pullman to take them to Bury. Which way was it routed? No one seems to know, but Im pretty certain that on its way back it came back via the Oldham loop line. Well thats my story and I’m sticking to it. (Bury won 2-0!!)
